I was just introduced to this today. I know NOTHING about it and really have no opinion yet. Anyone know about this new buzz word in opiate addiction? Scares the bejeezus out of me…easy access and absolutely no regulation? Recovery or just a new high? Anyone have any experience good or bad with this?

A Mom's Serious Blunder... 
Never heard of it. I’ve only recently heard of Ibogaine.
I was just wondering if J had ever considered vivitrol? My son is 6 months clean on it. Signed himself up to get the shot and goes each month without word one from me. This was after a horrendous spring and summer. Just curious.

Vivitrol is very expensive and we will not pay for it. It’s as simple as that. Insurance will not cover it. I am talking like over a $1000.
Ugh…that is infuriating. It should not be so expensive. I am hoping things turn around as there is more and more awareness.
I have first hand experience that Kratom is a fantastic all natural alternative for addicts that are trying to get clean but fail to do so because of the withdrawal. Think of it almost like an eastern medicine approach to getting clean (much like ibogaine) rather then the typical pharmaceutical approach (Methadone, Suboxone). The problem most addicts have once they stop using opiates with the help of methadone or suboxone is once they decide to get completely off of everything they still most likely face the same withdrawal symptoms they are trying so hard to avoid no matter how slowly they taper off. This is an addicts worst nightmare and is probably by far the most likely time they will relapse so as to avoid feeling any type of withdrawal. This is where Kratom is comes in and I’m telling you its a godsend! Kratom is basically a ground up plant that you put in hot water and drink exactly like tea and it takes away almost all of the withdrawal symptoms an addict is experiencing. It won’t take away all of the symptoms but does absolutely help for serious addicts on drugs like heroin or oxy, however, for someone tapering off of suboxone who’s withdrawal symptoms aren’t as serious but may last longer because of suboxone’s long half life, Kratom will take away almost all of the withdrawal symptoms. Now I know this will probably sound scary to a lot of people, there must be some kind of catch, right? Surprisingly there isn’t! Kratom is not addictive and most importantly it doesn’t get the user high in any way shape or form. The best way I can describe it is like drinking a strong cup of coffee. I am an addict who has been clean for 3 years and 15 days and the way that I got clean from a 20 bag a day heroin habit was first going on suboxone 8mg a day for a little over 6 months and then my doctor began tapering me down over a 6 month period and in the last 2 weeks of the taper I began drinking Kratom whenever I began feeling withdrawal symptoms come on and I continued this for about a month until I ran out of the Kratom I purchased and I’ve been clean ever since. I can honestly say it was the first time I have ever gotten clean without having to experience any pain and I really think that made all of the difference because I would always relapse just so I didn’t have to go through that awful withdrawal. Everyone is different and each addict has to find his own way, Kratom should be used as a tool towards sobriety, not viewed as the enemy.

My son’s friend used Kratom to get off Heroin – I can’t remember how long but I believe just a couple of months. He has been off everything for 3+ years now. I spoke to him a few months ago and he said he still takes Kratom when he feels the urge to use but that is only once every couple of months. I know another Lady who got off Heroin (started with a pain pill addiction for physical problems she has) and now uses Kratom and swears by it. She has been off all pain pills and Heroin for a couple of years now and is doing fantastic as is my son’s friend. I know of a few other stories that had success – The negative things I have read were on the internet when i was researching it a few years ago after B’s friend told me about it. Over the years I have become far more open to alternative approaches.
